a visit to…CAMDEN Market
Tattoos, Docs, Mohawks, and Leather. This pretty much sums up the scene of the infamous Camden in Northern London. With regulars ranging from The Clash to Amy Winehouse, if you’re looking for an AC/DC record, a bar brawl, and a new tat to show for it, you’re in the right spot. Step off the tube onto Camden High Street and its as if you’re back in 1970′s London shoulder to shoulder with Johnny Rotten’s long lost twin brother. Intertwined with the unfortunate tourist shops, the streets are lined with punk boutiques, vintage stores, vegan restaurants, and traditional pubs. Veering slightly to the right you can enter a maze of tents full of vendors selling everything from band t-shirts to knock off designer purses to pocket watches. Half the fun of visiting Camden is the people watching. The kids handing out flyers for local tattoo spots and late night bars are always decked out– studded leathers, jean vests packed with patches, and hair styles that could only be held by super glue…the best. Granted, for every amazing DIY jewelry seller, there’s 10 shitty Hot Topic-esque booths (insert South Park episode about Vampire goths here), but I can’t hate. Brit punks hold a very special place in my heart. Thank you Camden for keeping my Sid & Nancy dreams alive & well.

Feast Your Eyes: Selfridge’s Oxford Street.
A Visual Merchandiser’s wet dream
Here’s a look at one of the top department stores on the High street and their breath-takingly gorgeous window displays. The theme “By the Grace of Light,” ties in modernity, futurism, and classic Roman themes. You can tell the difference between Grecian and Roman by their pillars. (Ha!) All in all, it looks like a surreal painting–extremely inspiring. It almost makes walking down Oxford on cold nights and weekends bearable…almost. Whoever the Visual Merchandiser is, (I should’ve really looked this up, oops!) I’m severely impressed. It truly is art. Enjoy!

Lisa
